Margot nearly crashed into a guard as she run around the corner of the halls. She shot him a quick 'Sorry', gathered the skirts around her feet (cursing them all the while) and took off further into the castle.

A hurried look through the window showed that the situation outside was taking a swift turn for the worse. She ran faster.

Finally she took the last turn and raced to the door. The guards stepped to the side of the door at her frantic gestures. Of course the wretched skirts decided to trip her just as she burst through the door. She stumbled into the Ruby Room and stopped at the end of the long table.

The two figures sitting behind it looked up at her.

"Your Majesty, Your Highness," she blurted, bowing clumsily. "I'm terribly sorry to bother you in the middle of dinner, but it seems like a war is starting."

The man put down his silver fork and blinked at her. "Now?" he pouted. "Surely it can wait until after dessert."

Margot looked out the high window. A few arrows flew over the fortifications. The knights stationed on the walls looked at them in awe. She winced, but before she could voice her opinion, the Queen smiled at her and gestured to the table.

"Take a seat, viscountess," she said. It was probably an order, but Margot hesitated.

"I should..." she began, waving a hand in the general direction of the window. There was a rumble from outside and a knight's excited call 'Oooh, a catapult!'. "...yeah."

"Well, if you must," said the man and gave her what was probably supposed to be a supportive smile.

She quickly bowed and exited the room before she lost her patience and snapped at him. Margot took another look out a window and cursed her idiot brother (sorry, the Prince Consort) for talking her into becoming the Royal Advisor.

"Get down from there!" she shouted at the knights, who were leaning out between the merlons, admiring the catapult, instead of maybe preparing for the war. They scrambled down from the parapet, grumbling in disappointment.

Margot sighed and took off for the armory. She was pretty sure it wasn't in her job description.
